What happens to the songs you paste
Everything — reading chords, transposing, drawing diagrams, creating PDFs — runs as code inside your browser. The text you paste or import is not sent to Folk Songs of Canada Now or to anyone else. Song text is never put into page addresses (URLs), so it can’t end up in browser history, server logs or shared links.
What is stored on your device
- My songs — songs you choose to save are kept in your browser’s IndexedDB storage (database
folk-music-tools). - Your current draft — the transposer and ChordPro editor keep your last text in
localStorageso a refresh doesn’t lose your work. - Preferences — theme, instrument, text size and similar settings, also in
localStorage. - Offline copy of the site — pages, scripts and fonts are cached by a service worker so the tools work without a connection.
This data is not synchronised between devices or browsers. Clearing your browser data, using private browsing, or a browser that limits storage can remove it — export a backup from “My songs” if your songs matter to you.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
The site sets no cookies and includes no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. Your web host may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security; these never include your song text. If analytics or advertising are ever added, this page will be updated first and you will be asked for consent where the law requires it.
External links
Links to other websites (for example, reference articles) take you to services with their own privacy policies.
Delete my local data
You can remove everything this site has stored in this browser. This can’t be undone, so export a backup of your songs first if you want to keep them.
